JAKARTA -One of the many outcomes from the 2017 Airman to Airman talks between the TNI AU and the RAAF was a commitment from the RAAF to deliver a Syllabus Development course to the TNI-AU in early 2018. As a result a Mobile Training Team (MTT) of five RAAF Training Systems Officers’ was selected to deliver a tailored course to TNI AU personnel from Education Squadron 505 (Skadik 505), Flight Training Wing (Wingdikterbang), General Training Wing (Wingdikum), as well as personnel from Sulaiman Air Base, Bandung and Adi Soemarmo Air Base, Solo. The course was conducted at Skadik 505 in Jakarta during the period 19 February to 2 March 2018. This is the first time this training has been delivered in Indonesia. The two week program focused on Syllabus Development using the Systems Approach to Training currently used by the ADF.
GPCAPT Stephen Cook, Air Force Attaché and COL Lek Umar Rudianto representing Kadisdikau, opened the course at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base and emphasised that the main program objective was to develop a TNI AU syllabus development capability that is attuned with Australian training design methodology; thus resulting in an improved ability to work co-operatively with the RAAF.
During the two week program, the MTT, led by SQNLDR Damien Boyd from Headquarters Air Force Training Group (HQAFTG), and comprising of four Directing Staff: FLTLT Britt McCaig - RAAF School of Administration and Logistics Training, FLTLT Robert McManus - Defence International Training Centre, FLGOFF Angeline Bove - (HQAFTG), and FLGOFF Mannix Foster - Air Warfare Centre; delivered topics covering; Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation of training.
Each day consisted of short lectures followed by facilitated syndicate work; including practical scenario based activities in designing and developing a training syllabus. Bilateral links between instructors and developers were strengthened through shared experiences when designing a syllabus. The camaraderie was further enhanced when all the RAAF directing staff were invited out to dinner during the last week by the students in order to experience some of Indonesia’s culinary delights. A special mention to LTCOL Harianto (CO Skadik 505) for his tireless enthusiasm and oversight leading to the success of the program.
The visit was assessed as a resounding success by all involved; with numerous discussions focusing on the potential for additional suites of RAAF tailored training courses in the future. This will only further enhance our long term co-operation in the field of training and education between our two Air Forces.
